Our Gravel Retaining Grid is made right here in the United States from 100% recycled plastic. The ultra-strong fused hexagonal cell architecture offers higher strength and long-term stability as compared to pavers, which rely on linked circles or squares for strength. Each roll is 3.97' by 149' in size. Because the cells on the grids are smaller, you may fill them with smaller angular stones. Each cell is 1" tall and 2¼” wide. The stones should be angular in shape and be between 3/16" and 3/8" in size. The grid also complies with ADA guidelines. You and your visitors may walk on the grids with confidence because it looks wonderful and has lots of traction.

They are available in black, grey, tan, and red.

Each roll also comes with stakes.

The NDS EZ Roll is constructed from rigid, ultra-reinforced plastic fused to a geotextile fabric. This allows for easy roll-out installation and provides inherant strength. How To Install A Gravel Driveway

Note: The following information pertains to an installation of a basic gravel driveway. If you are installing the NDS EZ Roll Gravel Paver please refer to the instruction guide above for product specific installation instructions.

A gravel driveway will complement any home design, offers low maintenance, and is quite easy for anyone to install on their own. We will guide you through the basic steps to help you install your new driveway.

A gravel driveway will give you a classic look that will give you n attractive look to your surroundings as well as appeal to your guests. Gravel is one of the most popular materials for driveways versus other materials. Concrete or bricks usually require professional assistance but you can install them yourself if you have some experience with these materials without paying a consultant or hiring a skilled labor force.

An Overview For The Project

  • Once you have determined where the driveway will be installed, you must clear all grass and topsoil from the area.
  • Calculate how much gravel will be needed for each layer of the driveway.
  • Prepare and then schedule an appointment for the gravel to be delivered.
  • Level the ground along the pathway of the driveway then spread and compact the base layer.
  • Spread and compact the base layer.
  • Add the middle layer for the driveway.
  • Spread and shape the surface layer with gravel. Only the surface layer consists of what everyone refers to as gravel.

  • A successful, well-laid-out driveway should have three layers and the bottom layer should have a six-inch diameter of crushed rock.
  • The two to three-inch smaller stones make up the middle layer while the surface or third layer consists of real gravel.
  • Instead of smooth stones, choose rough angular stones for a firmer, more stable gravel driveway surface.

Steps For Creating A Successful Gravel Driveway

1) Stake out the pathway for your driveway starting from the curb to the very end. The end might be a garage or other structure that houses your vehicle. Otherwise, you decide where the pathway should end.

2) Clear all grass and topsoil from the staked or marked-off area. If you cannot manually do it, hire a bulldozer and operator to complete this step.

3) Calculate the cubic yards of gravel you will need for all three layers. Now that you have cleared the pathway for the driveway, you have to calculate the amount of stone you will need. You have to determine the number of cubic yards for each layer. To begin with, measure the length and width of the driveway laid out in feet. Multiply the length and width together to find get the square footage of the driveway. In other words, if the length is 15 feet and the width is 10 feet, your driveway will be 150 square feet. Now, multiply that number by the applicable depth for each layer and get the number of cubic feet of stone you'll need for each layer. The recommended height for each layer is around four to six feet. If you want a 4-inch layer, divide the square footage by 3, which is one-third of a foot.

Once you have calculated the required volume of stone in cubic feet, convert that number into cubic yards by dividing by 27 as there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard. The 150-square-foot, from our example, is 50 cubic feet or around 1.8 cubic yards which is 50 divided by 27 per layer. You will need approximately 1.4 tons of stone per cubic yard and add 4 percent for compaction. Therefore, 1.8 times 1.4 times 1.04 will equal your total order of stones in tons for one layer.

4) Prepare the area and schedule the delivery of gravel. Keep in mind, the delivery of stone. Some delivery trucks will not only drop off the stones but can spread them out for you.

Also, it's a good idea to have the delivery performed in separate orders for all three layers. Also, you should stagger the orders a few days apart so you have time to work with all layers separately. If you will be manually spreading the gravel, make sure you have all the required tools including a wheelbarrow, a shovel that offers a sturdy trough, and a rake with metal tines.

5) Before a delivery, make sure you level the ground on the pathway. It's really important this area is even. Depending on the area of your driveway, you should be able to handle this step using your own tools. You can also hire professional help with a backhoe. If you have decided to lay down a weed barrier, do it after you have smoothed out the ground. Also, show caution you do not bunch up the fabric when installing a weed barrier.

6) The base layer of gravel must be spread and compacted. Once you have spread the six-inch stones over the driveway area in a single interlocking manner, you need to bring in the bulldozer with its roller to compact the stones. Then drive over the base layer several times with your vehicle as long as you feel it will not harm your tires. The purpose is being, to pack the crushed rocks into the soil in order to form a strong foundation for the driveway.

7) Now comes the middle layer with 2 to 3-inch stones. If you are lucky, the delivery truck might spread the stones for you. Either way, the edges of the driveway are going to need some added care. Clean up the perimeters with a shovel or rake.

8) Bring in the gravel for the surface. This is an important step to assist the drainage of rainwater. Grade the stones so they peak in the middle but slightly incline along the edges. Once in a while, you might have to clean up the edges. All in all, your gravel driveway should be completed and intact for a very long time and require very little maintenance.

In the beginning or along the way, you might find out you need some help, contact your home improvement store or reach out to a contractor who deals with gravel driveways.
