Step-by-Step Installation

Plan base depth for the load
Treat it like a roadway section. Plan a minimum 6" base for cars and light trucks; increase toward 8"+ for fire-truck / H-20 loads. Keep slope within the recommended limits for your load case.

Excavate & compact subgrade
Excavate to the required depth (base + grid + topsoil/seed layer). Compact native soils, and use geotextile separation on soft soils to keep the base from sinking.

Build & compact the base course
Place base aggregate in lifts and compact thoroughly. A common approach is a free-draining base topped with a thin sand/soil leveling layer so the grid seats flat.

Roll out or lay the grid
Roll out EZ Roll (or lay Tufftrack panels) on the prepared base. Align rolls snug against one another, then anchor to prevent shifting during fill and seeding.

Fill with topsoil & seed (or sod)
Fill the cells with quality topsoil and seed, or press sod into the cells. Keep fill level with the top of the grid so the surface mows cleanly.

Establish, then maintain like a lawn
Water in and limit traffic until the turf roots into the base. After establishment, mow and maintain as normal turf; keep edges contained for long-term performance.
Common Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
Underbuilding the base
A thin or poorly compacted base still ruts — the grid can't fix a weak foundation. Match base depth to the load and compact in lifts.
Starving the turf
Grass in the cells still needs water, sun, and soil. Poor establishment leads to bare cells; water in and protect until rooted.
Skipping anchoring
Un-anchored rolls walk during fill and seeding. Align snug and anchor before topsoil goes in.
No edge containment
Turf-paver surfaces last longer with contained edges. A border keeps the grid tight and the install looking sharp.
