Thick Plastic Sheeting Roll

Our Thick Plastic Sheeting Roll is a heavy-duty commercial grade HDPE material that can be used in a variety of commercial or residential applications, both horizontally or vertically. It is available in in thicknesses ranging from 30 mil to 100 mil and various width options. To note, a mil is 1,000th of an inch.

This waterproof sheeting is resistant to puncturing, rodent and insect damage, and is non-biodegradable. It will not rot or mildew. When the material is buried and not in direct sunlight, it provides an estimated 100 year material lifespan. This product is made in America and ships from our Missouri warehouse.

Connecting HDPE Pieces

There are two ways to connect multiple pieces of HDPE together. One method is to overlap the HDPE and use our double sided seam tape to connect the two pieces. The other method is to butt the ends together and use our 17 mil single sided seam tape to create a solid connection.


Overlap Method
(for underground installations)

The overlap method is best used when connecting two pieces of HDPE in a buried application. Due to the overlap, a ridge is exposed which is not ideal when installed in exposed vertical or flat installations in high traffic areas as there is a possibility of an object catching on the ridge and pulling the two pieces apart.

In a below ground installation, the large overlap area provides a more water resistant connection as well as enhanced protection against tree and plant root intrusion.

End to End Method
(for exposed installations)

When installing HDPE on a wall, floor or anywhere that is exposed, the end to end method provides a secure connection and does not leave any ridges exposed to potential catching by a person or object.

About HDPE Plastic

HDPE is made from petroleum and is a thermoplastic polymer. When heated, it becomes pliable and then will become hard again when it cools off. Its structure allows it to form into various shapes very easily. When it cools off, it will become hard again through the injection molding process.

HDPE has a high melting point that is perfect for injection molding. This is an extremely flexible plastic. Originally, it was created in the 1930s and used for short-wave radar cabling during World War II.

The Importance Of HDPE

HDPE has many attractive qualities used in manufacturing. Its very light weight is a perfect choice for cartons and other containers to ship or move items without adding to the weight. On top of that, HDPE plastic is very strong. It's been used in fuel tanks for cars and other automotive applications. It can be used for heavy-duty purposes because of its strength and long-lasting qualities.

It can withstand impacts, chemical damage, and other harmful incidences. It's not affected by destructive weather conditions including UV rays. It can be stored both inside and outside, and in damp conditions that other materials cannot hold up to. It is not affected by solvents, many acids, and chemicals. HDPE is safe against mildew, resists corrosion, and will not cave into insect damage. For households, it's dishwater-safe and will last a very long time. HDPE plastic is commonly used for underground pipes due to all its impressive qualities. HDPE plastic can be finished in different colors and textures both translucent and opaque and can print images, logos, and text directly on the plastic's surface or on the label. Adding pigmentation or color to HDPE plastic can strengthen the product even more so.

This lightweight plastic can easily replace heavier less environmentally friendly materials in many fields and will withstand demanding applications. The plastic molding process uses a lot less energy than extracting steel from iron ore. It will help manufacturers contribute to sustainability and reduce energy demand by 60%.

HDPE plastic products are recyclable and therefore will decrease the impact on landfills and reduces their carbon footprint. When heated, the plastic will melt back to its liquid form so it can be reshaped into something completely different. To find out whether a plastic container is made from HDPE and recyclable, look for a symbol with the number”2” inside the triangle shaped by three arrows. This stands for its status as a Type 2 Plastic and is recyclable. There could also be the letters HDPE printed just below or near this symbol.
