Our hard plastic sheeting is designed to provide a high level of puncture resistance while at the same time allowing for material flexibility to suit a wide variety of different applications ranging from above ground moisture control to subterranean root containment. The 100 mil (3/32”) material is made from High Density plastic sheeting (HDPE) which provides an impressive 100 year lifespan when installed underground. The plastic can also be installed above ground and exposed as it is produced with built in UV inhibitors which will help the material resist breakdown when exposed to UV rays. The plastic can be installed in both cold and hot climates and is available in a wide variety of different roll widths.

The hard plastic sheeting is made in the USA and typically ships in one business day from KS.

*The widest HDPE roll that we offer is currently 5’ (60 inches).

Please note that we are unable to provide custom roll lengths.

HDPE - An Overview

HDPE or High-density polyethylene is a thermoplastic resin material used for so many applications because of its high strength-to-density ratio. It's shown to be very reliable in many applications including residential, commercial, and industrial fields. This article will go over the many uses of HDPE plastic from lumber to playground equipment. It's incredibly sturdy, long-lasting, and extremely safe for food containers all the way up to marina projects such as piers and decks.

HDPE is used for water bottles, milk jugs, playground equipment, and toys for children and pets. Since HDPE has entered the scene, it has shown its value in so many applications needed by manufacturers and homeowners. We will go over many popular applications that have placed HDPE above the crowd. Let's take a closer look:

Plastic Containers

Plastic containers are massively produced and placed on shelves to date. Although plastic containers in the past have gotten a bad reputation for ending up in landfills causing issues for the environment, HDPE plastic has turned things around. Most consumers realize plastic has caused many problems along coastal shorelines, landing on streets, harming wildlife, and creating massive trash issues.

On the other hand, HDPE plastic is recyclable instead of ending up in landfills. This plastic is helping to clean up the environment instead of harming it.

HDPE plastic produces more than water bottles, it's used for so many other items including food trays and food storage containers that can be used again. These containers are simply washed and sent off to be recycled. Because HDPE plastic will not leak and resists chemicals and other industrial contaminants, it's the safest plastic on the market. HDPE polymers will withstand chemicals that would otherwise lead to corrosion and deterioration.

Plastic Lumber

HDPE is also used to produce plastic lumber. High-density polyethylene is made of thermoplastic polymers to provide a high strength-to-density ratio. Many forests will be saved when HDPE plastic is used for lumber instead of real wood. Most people understand that real wood will crack, deteriorate, warp, and splinter over time but HDPE will not. Only in extreme climates can HDPE lose its shape and break. Under normal circumstances, this plastic lumber is perfect for decking and marine boardwalks without issue. Simply put, recycled lumber is made from HDPE recycled plastic due to its strength, resilience, and ability for many structural applications. In some cases, fiberglass is used for added support in very large projects like coastal retention.

HDPE lumber is the best commercial material because it will not fall to pest infestations or moisture conditions while real wood deals with termites and mold causing the wood to lose strength. HDPE lumber comes in different sizes and specifications. HDPE plastic boards can be cut, shaped, and finished the same way as real wood. Whether large or small, there is no project HDPE plastic cannot handle.

For Piping Projects

High-density polyethylene is an excellent piping material. HDPE pipe grade sheets offer higher molecular weight and significantly greater strength and staying power versus other plastics. For outdoor projects, HDPE piping offers UV resistance along with the ability to withstand temperatures up to 180° Fahrenheit and is long-lasting for both underground and above-ground piping projects.

Plumbers have used dangerous chemicals for years. Using HDPE piping sheets can withstand chemical irritants with no problems. Metal pipes can leak heavy metals as well as residue found in water supplies. HDPE plastic piping never leaks harmful contaminants. Its strong polymer ratio is ideal for residential, commercial, and industrial piping. Flexible HDPE pipes provide potable water to residences and will protect against corrosion caused by steel making them the perfect choice for fluids, slurry, and gas projects.

Unlike past beliefs that pipe systems will only last for 50 years, these systems can last up to 100 years before repairs will have to be made.

Marine Decking & Other Outdoor Applications

There are several outdoor and marine decking applications that have benefited from HDPE. High-density polyethylene is the right choice for outdoor decking due to its strength, versatility, resistance, and long-lasting qualities. Because HDPE is resistant to moisture, weather is not a problem.

HDPE plastic offers very low maintenance so you will save money and time versus other plastics. You can place your HDPE furniture onto your outdoor deck, no damage will be incurred.

HDPE Plastic For Marine Decking And Boardwalks

Due to its high resistance to water and moisture, your decking and boardwalks will be protected from water damage, insects, and mold. You might want to consider residential boat docks, marinas, piers, coastal barriers, and other light commercial applications for waterfront homes and other structures. Also, HDPE's aesthetic appeal will not diminish over time. The texture looks like wood giving you a beautiful appearance to the dock board along with durability and very low maintenance.

Playground Equipment

There are many reasons why HDPE plastic is the perfect solution for outdoor playground equipment. It's very easy to clean, the plastic does not stain or collect dirt. You do not need any specialized cleaning formula, just use soap and water. This plastic is compatible with most woodworking tools and CNC fabrication techniques. Therefore, you can cut, shape, and even alter playground equipment according to the specifications. You do not have to paint, stain, or waterproof the equipment it's all built into the plastic material.

HDPE plastic is safe for children. Bugs cannot penetrate the surface and this material will resist any impact caused when children are playing. This material will outlast continual use. With so many applications added to its name, HDPE plastic lumber is perfect for residential, commercial, and industrial uses. HDPE is made from recycled plastic making the material environmentally friendly.
