Our Raccoon Baffle is a smooth and heavy-duty plastic (HDPE) When a tree, pole or other structure is wrapped with the material, animals such as raccoons or cats are unable to climb due to the slick surface of the plastic. The baffle is available in a 60 mil thickness which is 5/64”. The HDPE plastic baffle is made with built in UV inhibitors which will help the material resist breakdown when exposed to ultra violet light. The plastic can be used all climates and is available in a wide variety of different roll widths to in order to provide the coverage that is required. The material can be easily attached to a tree, pole or other structure with standard self-tapping screws.

This is proudly made in the USA. Orders typically ship in one business day from Kansas City, KS.

*The widest HDPE roll that we offer is currently 5’ (60 inches).

Please note that we are unable to provide custom roll lengths.

About HDPE Plastic & the Material’s Many Uses

HDPE is a high-density polyethylene plastic that comes from petroleum or often referred to as crude oil. This material is used in manufacturing for an array of products and applications such as milk jugs, shampoo bottles, and chemical containers. Because this plastic is inexpensive and lasts a very long time, it's become very popular among consumers. HDPE's outstanding properties can withstand very high temperatures and stress. This material is resistant to chemicals as well as UV rays allowing products to last a very long time.. Due to its excellent qualities, HDPE is the most sought-after material by manufacturers for many products including toys, parts for cars, clothing, and playground equipment.

How HDPE Is Made

HDPE plastic is made by mixing two chemicals together:

1 - a long-chain polymer known as polyethylene (PE) which comes from crude oil, and

2 - a short-chain polymer known as ethylene glycol (EG).

When these two chemicals bond together, they form a molecule called high-density polyethylene or HDPE. This newly created molecule is very much like PE but much stronger. It's used to make containers for heavier items such as pipes, plastic bottles, and bottles for water and other products.

HDPE Benefits

Resists Heat: One of its outstanding features, it's resistant to high temperatures such as containers for placing hot food where it will remain safe and not become damaged. Another advantage, HDPE does not contain any harmful elements because this material is non-toxic. This makes HDPE an excellent choice for food containers, medical devices, and other products that require safety above and beyond all else.

Its Incredible Strength -HDPE offers a tensile strength of 23.0 – 29.5 MPa which is 2 times stronger than polyethylene terephthalate. Due to its low degree of branching, HDPE plastic can withstand heavier contents without breaking, tearing, or cracking. As it is harder than other plastics, it will resist higher pressures and therefore is used for piping and many other outdoor operations.

HDPE Is Recyclable -Once an HDPE product has reached the end of the line, it's melted down and made into a new product. This means the material is heated up and turned into liquid. After this process, it creates a resin used to mold into new products. Recycling HDPE decreases the amount of virgin resin needed to create products. Also, less energy and fewer greenhouse gases are needed. Also, the recycling process will create significant value from waste which is very good for the environment.

Chemical-Resistant -As HDPE is chemical-resistant, it's perfect for projects requiring high levels of chemicals such as detergents, oils, grease, alkalis, and solvents. This is why it's an excellent material for packaging food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, adhesives, paints, and the list goes on.

Resists Impact -HDPE can withstand impacts with a force up to 50 kN or 10 tons while PET can withstand impacts with a force up to 20 kN or 4 tons. The difference between HDPE and PET is the difference in thickness. HDPE has a higher thickness due to its higher density while PET and other plastics have a lower thickness.

PET stands for Polyethylene terephthalate. This is a well-known thermoplastic polymer resin used in fibers for clothing, containers for food and liquids, and thermoforming for manufacturing. When combined with glass fiber, it's used for engineering resins. Thermoforming is the process of applying pressure to stretch a sheet of heated thermoplastic over a mold to create a 3-dimensional shape.

Products Made From HDPE

Two popular products made from HDPE are milk jugs and shampoo containers. Both milk jugs and shampoo containers are excellent for milk and thicker liquids such as shampoo because the contents are heavier and need added support from HDPE. Another reason, HDPE is lightweight so it will not add weight to the containers or jugs.

Also, because HDPE is recyclable, it can be heated and remolded into a new product with the same excellent properties. This cuts back on single-use bottles and plastic containers ending up in landfills.

Containers For Storing Food

BPA is a synthetic organic compound used in manufacturing epoxy resins and other polymers. It's found in cans and plastics as well as other packages for food. BPS is an endocrine-disrupting chemical compound that can interfere with the body's natural hormones.

The FDA has approved HDPE for packaging food as it's considered BPA-free and will not leak into the contents. Also, HDPE is resistant to mold.

If you want to know if your container or package is made from HDPE, look for the Resin Identification Code or RIC found on the container or package. It's in the shape of a triangle formed by arrows with a number in the center. Products made from HDPE are the number 2. If you see a different number, don't worry, HDPE is not the only approved food-grade plastic out there. The FDA has approved resin codes 1 through 7 for food-grade materials. If you insist on the number 2, you can look for another product.

Underground Pipes

HDPE is used for many piping operations including pipe systems, basic trenching of a water main, fire ring main, gas main, and gas main pipelines as well as horizontal drilling for electrical and telecommunication passages.

HDPE systems are economical to implement and save on maintenance costs.

HDPE Playground Equipment

Playground equipment made out of HDPE plastic is lightweight and dependable so they will not become easily damaged. This equipment requires very little maintenance and is very easy to clean. Rest assured, this equipment is safe for children because it's BPA-free and resists chemicals.

Toys Made From HDPE

Children and pet toys made from HDPE are durable and toxin-free. HDPE is a plastic that is safe for children and pets as many toys are now made from HDPE. This plastic will remain strong caused by the punishment and abuse handed out by pets and children.

Recycled Products Made From HDPE

Recycled HDPE material is very popular for making outdoor products such as furniture, trash bins, tables, chairs, fences, and benches. HDPE is one of the most environmentally friendly materials on earth due to its low-maintenance, long-lasting qualities, it's nontoxic, and can be recycled over and over.

In A Nutshell

High-density Polyethylene, or HDPE, is an extremely versatile material used in a huge range of products. It's incredibly strong, flexible, and will last a very long time. Due to its high tensile strength, it can be twisted, bent, and stretched without losing its many excellent properties. It's heat and chemical-resistant and can be easily cut and shaped for so many different applications. Because it's easily recyclable, it offers a much lower impact on the environment.
