Easy to Work With 25-foot Roll Size

Most heavy-duty grass protection mesh on the market is shipped in large 50’-70’ rolls which are very large, heavy and difficult to handle. When developing MudStop™ HG we kept this in mind and decided to produce 25’ rolls which are much easier to handle and work with. A roll of MudStop™ HG weighs 60 lbs and can be picked up and moved by one person instead of two. Additionally, due to the reduced roll length, smaller projects can be accomplished without having to purchase a bunch of extra material.

MudStop™ HG vs Economy-Grade Mesh

Low priced economy-grade mesh can provide basic reinforcement for very occasional vehicular parking. Where issues arise are in material durability and reduced traction. Due to its low strength, economy-grade mesh quickly deforms when driven on and will begin to rut out the grass underneath. Additionally, the low priced mesh is typically a flat mesh without ridges. This can create a slippery surface for pedestrians and vehicles when wet. MudStop™ HG incorporates an osculated mesh pattern to provide greatly enhanced material strength while its multi-layer design enables enhanced traction for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Where Can MudStop™ HG be Installed?

MudStop™ HG grass protection mesh can be installed in a wide variety of different landscape applications - pretty much anywhere you want protection against rutting from tires or foot traffic!

Great for Dog Runs Too!

In addition to protecting grass from vehicular damage, MudStop™ HG can also be used to protect grass from becoming damaged in dog run areas. The osculated mesh pattern is engineered with small openings which keeps paws from getting stuck. Does your dog love to dig in your lawn? Our mesh will prevent that from happening as well. MudStop™ HG is the perfect solution to keep your lawn mud free and your dog with a safe place to run and play.

3-Step Easy-Installation

The installation of MudStop™ HG in a lawn area can easily be accomplished by the homeowner. Follow the simple 3-step process below to reinforce your lawn with MudStop™ HG for optimal protection of your lawn area:

Step 1:
Cut the Grass Short:

GPM-Step-0.jpg__PID:c001bd93-e694-4775-bc7a-11dbf3fba43d

First cut the grass area short so that the mesh can be applied as close to the root zone as possible.

Step 2:
Roll out the Mesh:

GPM-Step-1.jpg__PID:a43dd856-61f3-4a1c-8833-35917fd2e62c

Roll out the mesh on the grass’s surface.

Step 3:
Attach Using Ground Staples:

GPM-Step-2.jpg__PID:e62c99d2-948e-4d8d-b35a-2a68b9d6008a

Using 8" ground staples, affix the mesh to the ground’s surface placing 1 staple every 18 inches in all directions. (each 25' roll of MudStop™ HG requires approximately 100 staples) As a general rule of thumb, the more staples you use the more secure the mesh will be. Edges and seams may require additional staples depending on the installation site characteristics. While stapling, be sure to smooth out any bumps or bubbles in the mesh caused by an uneven grass surface.

You're Done,
Park Your Vehicle!

You can now drive, park and walk on your reinforced lawn. Be sure to water the grass well to encourage appropriate grass growth through the mesh. This will help disguise the material and provide a more natural looking surface.

Parking an RV or Boat?

If you are parking an rv, boat or other heavy vehicle long-term on the mesh it is a good idea to double up the mesh where the wheels will directly rest. Over time a very heavy load concentrated on a single area can deform the mesh especially during heavy rainfall if the ground below becomes saturated. Adding a second layer of mesh will provide additional support and help to prevent indentation into your lawn from the vehicle tires. The best way to accomplish this is to install a 1-1/2’ square under the main mesh layer where each tire will rest.

HDPE - An Overview

To begin with, HDPE stands for High Density Polyethylene. It's a plastic material made from crude oil and used by manufacturers for their plastic products. Some products made from plastic include water bottles, milk jugs, and shampoo containers. You are probably using HDPE products and don't even realize it!

Many manufacturers are using HDPE containers for their products due to it's incredible durability, ability to withstand temperatures, and is completely recyclable. Another plus for HDPE, it resists chemicals and UV. Many of the consumer goods made from HDPE are used in the food industry but it doesn't stop there. HDPE is used in medical devices, automotive parts, toys, clothing, and throughout the construction industry for different materials.

Producing HDPE consists of mixing two chemicals, a long-chain polymer known as polyethylene (PE) that comes from crude oil and a short chain polymer known as ethylene glycol (EG). The two molecules bond together to create another molecule known as high density polyethylene or HDPE! HDPE has properties very similar to PE but is much stronger. The formulation of the two molecules is why manufacturers use it to make plastic bags and bottles as well as for pipes that hold much heavier items.

The Benefits Of Using HDPE

Because HDPE can resist high temperatures, it's the perfect choice for hot food containers. These containers are safe and will not become damaged by heat.

Because HDPE does not contain harmful substances, it's non-toxic. This is why HDPE is the chosen material for holding food as well as other products that address health and safety requirements.

The Strength Found In HDPE

HDPE has a strength, known as tensile strength, of 23.0 to 29.5 which is 1.5 to 2.0 times greater than polyethylene terephthalate. In other words, it can handle heavy loads without cracking, breaking, or falling apart.

HDPE offers unique properties that come from its molecular makeup. It has a low degree of branching, which means it can handle heavier loads. As this material is harder than other plastics, it will resist greater pressure. That's why it's used for piping and other outdoor functions.

It's Recyclable

When HDPE comes to its end, it's melted down and used again. The material is heated up until it turns into liquid. Once completed, the resin is produced and molded into new products. Recycled HDPE does not require as much virgin resin to create new products. Recycling uses less energy and fewer greenhouse gases. Also, recycling creates new value from old waste to improve our environment.

Resists Chemicals

HDPE resists chemicals where resisting high chemicals is important. HDPE will resist many chemicals including alkali, acids, solvents, detergents, and oil and grease. Therefore, it's the chosen material for packaging food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, adhesives, paint, and the list goes on.

Resistant To Impact

HDPE will stand up to an impact up of to 50 kN or 10 tons, while PET will stand up to an impact of up to 20 kN or 4 tons. PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate which is a polyester found in clothing as well as other products.

Some Items Made From HDPE

HDPE is a great choice for containers for milk along with thicker liquids such as shampoos and conditioners. These products need good support due to their weight. Also, these containers are lightweight making them easier to move around. As mentioned earlier, HDPE is recyclable and turned into other products. This cuts back on single-use bottles and will not cause plastic contamination.

Food Storage

When choosing a plastic container, you should know the difference between safe plastic and those that are not. There are two categories of plastic that are safe for holding food. One is BPA-free and the other is phthalate-free.

The FDA has approved HDPE for packaging food that is BPA-free. In other words, it will not leak into the stored content and resists mold. You can find out more about the plastic you considering buying is made from HDPE by looking or the Resin Identification Code or RIC. It looks like a triangle of arrows with a number in the center, that's the code for the plastic. HDPE is code 2. If there is a different code number, keep in mind, there are other approved food-grade plastics on the market. The FDA has approved resin codes 1 through 7 for food-grade materials.

For Underground Pipes

Underground pipe systems are used for many reasons such as standard trenching of water mains, fire ring mains, sewer mains, and gas main pipelines along with horizontal drilling for electrical and telecommunication channels. HDPE saves money for carrying out various operations and long-term maintenance.

Equipment For Playgrounds Use HDPE

Playground equipment made out of HDPE plastic is lightweight and will last a very long time without breaking down. The equipment does not need a lot of maintenance and is easy to clean. The plastic is free of BPA and will not leak chemicals making them safe for children and pets.

HDPE For Pet & Children Toys

Because it's durable and toxin-free, HDPE is a plastic that is safe for children and pets. Many children and pet toys are made are now made from HDPE plastic that can withstand a lot of punishment from both pets and small children alike.

What Recycled HDPE Is Used For

HDPE that has been recycled is used to make outdoor products and outdoor furniture. Some products include garbage containers, racks for bikes, fences, benches, decking, chairs, and picnic tables.

Because HDPE is one of the most popular materials and environmentally friendly, many more manufacturers are heading to get HDPE plastic for making their products. HDPE requires little to no maintenance, and it's extremely durable for a long period of time. It's non-toxic and because it can be recycled over and over it's excellent for the health of our planet.

In A Nutshell

The versatility of HDPE means it can be bent, twisted, or stretched to different forms and shapes for different products. HDPE is resistant to chemicals. It can be cut easily molded for various designs then used for different applications. As HDPE is recyclable, it provides a much lower impact on the environment.

We have come a long way in technology and plastic is no different. There was a time when plastics were not particularly safe and reaped havoc on the planet. HDPE is completely different, it's safe, reusable, and one of the best benefits found in our new technology.

We hope this article introduced you to HDPE plastic and you now know how exceptional it really is.
