The Future of HDPE Plastic

HDPE started in the United Kingdom in the 1930s and grew in enormous popularity when production started in the 1950s in the US. It's now considered the most widely used plastic worldwide.

Not only is this product versatile but extremely popular and here's why:

This is a very strong yet lightweight product which is why an HDPE milk jug weighing 2 ounces can carry a gallon of milk. Also, many car manufacturers use HDPE for fuel tanks along with lighter-weight car parts to increase fuel efficiency.

You can drop a toy truck downstairs and it will bounce back.

It's long-lasting a weather-resistant so a plastic lumber deck in the backyard can be the best choice for entertaining friends and family.

HDPE resists mold, rotting, insects, and mildew making this product perfect for underground pipes for delivering water.

Due to its flexibility, it can be molded into just about any shape which is a huge benefit of its incredible molding abilities.

Plastics along with HDPE have been used for some time now to replace heavier materials, allowing companies to reduce the cost of materials used in packaging and products. Strong and lightweight means it has less impact on the environment.

A study revealed that 6  kinds of packaging found that plastic can offer the delivery of more food with a great deal less waste, less energy use, and less global warming. This is an excellent alternative.

The Leading Uses of HDPE

More than likely, you handle HDPE bottles and containers daily for food, beverages, shampoo, personal care, and household products. The plastic bags you use in your grocery store aisle for produce are HDPE as well as the liners in cereal boxes. These reasons prove why this product is not only versatile but very popular. If you look at the bottom of your laundry bottle, you will see the number 2 surrounded by an arrow. That is HDPE's resin identification code. The code was assigned many years ago to help in plastic recycling even though today recycling programs do not ask for the resin code as they did in the past.

Going back to the 1990s, when recycling first started taking off, this product had become a material that would not land in a landfill. Almost all recycling programs in the US accept HDPE bottles which have allowed HDPE bottles to break through the billion-pound mark in recycling.

Recycled HDPE has become as popular and versatile as original plastic products and is used for the same original applications. Some of the typical recyclable items include:

Storage containers
Plastic lumber
Plastic outdoor patio furniture
Used in recyclable plastic playground equipment
Recyclable car parts

Recyclable trash cans, compost bins, as well as recyclable bins which is obviously appropriate.
